Concert running order is:

Handel

Vivaldi

Interval

Bach

NB Rehearsal order on the day will be slightly different.

Concert Dress

Please note that there is very little dressing room space. Please arrive in concert dress, and keep belongings to an absolute minimum. In the break between rehearsal and concert, we ask that everyone goes out – there are cafes nearby and loos at Peter Jones to do final makeup etc!

Concert dress is all black:

Either – Black shirt, black trousers, black suit-style jacket, long black tie, black socks, black shoes. Nehru collar shirts may be worn, and if so no long black tie is required and they should be buttoned up to the top.

Or

Elegant, modest, floor-length black dress or separates suitable for evening wear. Minimum ¾ length sleeves. Or very smart, ankle length black trousers (not tight fitting and no denim, corduroy, cargo pants or leggings).

Black tights/long socks and black shoes.

Jewellery is allowed.

Please be considerate to your fellow performers and do wear deodorant but don’t wear heavy perfume/aftershave!

Please do not use aerosols (such as deodorants or hairspray) in communal dressing rooms as these, as with perfume/aftershave, can exacerbate asthma and other respiratory conditions and the dressing rooms are small.

Water

Each half of the concert is only around 35 minutes long, so please don’t bring water on stage. There will be time in the interval to very quickly grab some water before lining up again.

Rehearsal Timetable

13.15 – 13.30: arrive at the stage door which is on Sloane Terrace. You will have to sign in and your name will be on a sheet. Your part rep will be there. Once signed in you will be shown to the auditorium to sit and wait to be seated on stage. Please arrive quietly and sit quietly as the organ and orchestra may be tuning.

If you need the restroom your part rep will show you where it is.

There will be a seating plan for the concert and at about 13.40 will ask all singers to sit and this will take a little time so please be patient. Your part rep will have a copy of the seating plan and you should be able to remember who you are sitting next to for both the 1st and 2nd halves after the Tuesday rehearsal.

13.50-14.10 approx Choir warm up

14.15 Orchestra arrival and tuning

14.30 Full rehearsal starts and the running order for this is:

Handel

Vivaldi

Bach

Leonarda

At the break we will practice coming on and off in double choir formation and coming back on in single choir formation.

Sits and Stands

A separate sits and stands list will be shared later – please mark these in your score.

Please do not clap when Jo comes in, or at the end. Stand when she reaches the podium. The only time you should clap on stage is if the orchestra leader claps (unless they are clapping the choir)!

Please sit well and look up and engaged rather than at your score during solos, with your music folder on your lap. Have fun and smile! Think about your page turns being quiet and don’t move during the playout at the end of pieces/movements.

End of the Rehearsal

The rehearsal will finish at 17.30 and your part rep will show you to the dressing rooms allocated for singers, which will be indicated with a sign on the doors. Please note that they will be unisex.

The Concert

19.10 Return to Cadogan Hall, leave all belongings in your dressing room and line up in 1st half positions ready to file on stage at 19.25, or just before.

19.30 concert starts

20.10 interval – go off stage. You can go to your dressing room, have a drink and leave your first half music if you wish before heading straight to 2nd half lining up positions – the interval is 20 minutes only although be prepared for it to be a little longer, since there will be a huge audience to get in and out

20.30 2nd half starts

Approx 21.15 concert finishes

Return to your dressing room to collect all of your things and leave the building by the stage door and re-enter via main doors to meet your guests in the bar.

Information for your Guests

The main bar at the Cadogan Hall will be open from 18.00. You can order pre interval and post concert drinks at the bar and we encourage you to do this as it will be very full! The auditorium will open at 19.00.

Please encourage them to buy a programme from a Cadogan volunteer.

The bar will close at 22.30 and there is a building curfew of 23.00 and we will be fined if everyone has not left the building by then.

Post-rehearsal Pub:

The post-rehearsal pub is called the Walrus and the Carpenter and is a 1 minute walk down Lovat Lane from the church. Please come and join us for a drink!
